Why do I need Heavy Duty Boundary Wire for my Dog Fence ?
Basically to save you time and money in the long run. Inferior wire - as included in many of our competitors systems can break repeatedly if not well protected and is advised as such by the manufacturer.  In our experience, it is not a question of if the cheaper wire will break - it is simply when it will happen.  Ever wonder why you can buy a Wire Break locator? The last thing you want is to be out trying to find a wire break in the pouring rain or under 3ft of snow.  We offer an upgrade on our Dog Fence systems to a Heavier Duty 16/18g copper stranded Commercial Grade boundary wire - we were the first company to do this for our clients and set an industry precedent by doing so. Our wire is more than 3 times thicker and stronger than the wire you will find in any Retail or "Online" store kits and has proven to be extremely durable in any climate - even above ground in the worst of winter climates like Ontario, Quebec and even the Yukon to name but a few.

Can I Buy my Boundary Wire Locally?
Yes you can - in fact we get asked this question quite often whether it's to add extra on to your existing in-ground fence or just to buy a system without the wire & flags from us and then source your wire locally.  If you are planning on buying some wire locally, these systems will work with any gauge of copper insulated wire between 14g-20g, although we recommend using an "RW" grade 14g or 16g insulated wire - as used in professional installations. The "RW" or "WU" prefix denotes wire that is Direct Burial approved - a quality hardware store or electrical supplier in your area should be able to help with finding the wire you need. This RW 14g wire is definitely more expensive but it's commonly used in Commercial Irrigation systems, and is designed to last a lifetime.

These wire and flag kits or Boundary kits will work with any manufacturers wired in-ground pet containment system. Our kits provide a better quality product and longer life-span for your dog fence.

Please note: the numbers below are approximate based on a typical perimeter layout.  Additional wire may be required if your design is to include flower beds, pools etc..  As a general rule of thumb it is always a good idea to have a little extra on hand just in case you may need to fence off additional areas or change a portion of your boundary at a later time.   Also, should your boundary wire ever break - we highly recommend not just splicing the two broken ends back together, but splicing in an new 6-8 foot section of wire over the entire area to replace the break.  This is done to avoid any possible problems you may encounter with moisture contaminating or corroding the exposed ends and inside the sheath.

For proper training of your pet, we recommend one set of flags per 500 ft of boundary wire ( ie: 1 flag every ten feet ).  Boundary kits are comprised of 500ft (150m) wire & 50 training flags.
